Q&A
What is your wellness philosophy?
Healthy hedonism! It’s all about balancing the things that nourish your body with the things that feed your spirit.
What brought you into wellness?
I began my career in food when I was 22, ironically the same year I was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. It took a few years of having my health completely deteriorate before I was able to marry my work in the kitchen with the pain I was experiencing behind closed doors. And eventually, it lead me to dedicate a year of my life to making one lifestyle change, one month at a time, which I write about in my book, The Wellness Project.
What does You. We. All. mean to you?
Our individual wellness is so important, but it exists within the context of the real world — the people, the environment, the energy around us. A better self means a better world. And a better world, a more vibrant community, means a better self.
What's your favorite ritual?
I’m not a huge fan of resolutions, but I love taking stock of my year every December and getting super clear on my intentions for the following 12 months. I choose a theme — one word to drive me forward — and then a few challenges to complete along the way.
