As a longtime sustainability editor (who is very prone to losing stuff), I've had dozens of reusable water bottles through the years.

In that time, I've learned that some are definitely better at managing mishaps like leaks and dents than others.

I personally prefer stainless steel bottles since I've had more than one glass bottle break on me in the past, and usually opt for a twist lid instead of a straw lid because I find them easier to clean. But that's just me.

I put together this list of the top 12 reusable water bottles to appeal to any type of sipper.

Though they vary in material, size, and design, each one is BPA-free, a joy to use, and guaranteed to make you forget all about single-use plastic.

Best insulated: S'well White Marble Bottle

By now, many people have heard whisperings of  S'well's minimalist, sleek design and almost magical ability to keep drinks piping hot and ice-cold. It's true! Made from triple-layered steel, all of S'well's bottles are incredibly well insulated and can keep beverages cold for 24 hours and hot for 12.

Best stainless steel: Hydro Flask 32 oz Wide Mouth

Hydro Flask's signature steel bottles are all over the place for a reason. They're well-made, versatile, and extremely durable. (Like, I've used mine for the past five years level durable.) They come in a variety of colors and lid designs, but the wide lid has my vote because it's so easy to fill and clean.

Best multipurpose: Welly Traveler 12oz

Pop open Welly's lid and you'll find a removable infuser for brewing tea or infusing fruit, making this a good pick for anyone who likes to jazz up their H20 every now and again. It's also well-sized for coffee and can double as a travel mug—though its sustainable bamboo bottom is not dishwasher safe, so you'll have to hand wash it between brews.
